Getting the job you want involves interacting with prospective employers either directly or indirectly:
Once you have achieved the second item in the list above, the interview, you can know that you have the interest of the employer. This is because the employer believes you can benefit them. But getting the job is not just getting to the interview, you must also let the employer know that you are truly interested by asking for the job.
Be Honest - Just Ask
There are many ways to ask for the job. Using hard-sell, pushy, overt statements should not be one of these. Some examples of what NOT to say include:
Never make the question about you. Don't use 'I' in asking. And above all be simple and honest when asking for the job. Here are a few things you can say:
Once you have asked for the job, wait for a response. Most often you will be getting the job or getting a hiring deadline.
Normally when you approach the end of the interview there will be signs letting you know you have the job. If the employer is handing you paperwork to sign, or company materials, you are getting the job. But what happens if nothing happens? What if there are no signs from the employer? Ask them a simple question such as 'so what do you think?' This will get you an honest answer either direction. If they tell you there are other applicants to consider, do the following:
